Old Malton lies a short distance down a road from modern Malton's town centre and market square. This route is a simple stroll around Old Malton village, down into Malton itself and around its small market place. Since a bypass was built in the late seventies, Malton has returned from being a congested town on the busy A64 to the Yorkshire Coast, to its origins as very much a local countryside community centre and market place. There are plenty of places to enjoy lunch either at the start or finish of your walk. There is a long stay car park near Malton Town Centre, and an assortment of parking alternatives in the streets around. |

No need for a map. You won't get lost. The route starts in Old Malton Village. If you arrive by train or bus (or park the car in Malton), the walk from Malton up 'Old Maltongate' to the village centre takes less than half an hour. Investigate the clues for the first section and then retrace your steps back into Malton, finishing up in the main square. |
