Setting off westwards from Royal Tunbridge Wells, you quickly turn off the A264 & head towards the Ashdown Forest. From Forest Row onwards, you find yourself in Tudor England. |
As you drive past Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn, and through Chiddingstone to Penshurst, if you have any sense of history you will want to linger & study the 16th century architecture & ambiance of these communities. |
The route finishes in Penshurst, just a short drive northwest from Tunbridge Wells. Penshurst Palace, with its medieval Barons Hall, toy museum, extensive gardens, plant shop & nature trail, is a popular attraction for families. |
