Yorkshire's Northern Wolds - Stamford Bridge to Sledmere
	This route starts at Stamford Bridge, a few miles north-east of York.

Stamford Bridge is a pretty, busy village on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds and is famous for the battle that took place there in 1066, between King Harold and the viking invaders. Harold won this battle but then his army had to march  south to fight again at Hastings, where things didn't go so well...

	Sledmere is a well kept village, purpose built to serve the stately home & and its substantial lands around. The road across the northern Wolds that joins the two is an absolute pleasure to drive on & is popular with motorcycle clubs.
There are fine pubs, all serving food, in all the villages along the route. The Triton Arms in Sledmere has a particularly fine restaurant attached, though reservations would be recommended for any large group of people. An alternative, when doing this route, is to return to Stamford Bridge for refreshments in one of several pubs & cafes there.
