The route manages to keep to mostly minor roads in an area that is criss-crossed with busy A-class trunk roads. Highlights include the town of Ampthill, where Katherine of Aragon heard at the end of her trial at Dunstable Priory in 1533 that her marriage to Henry VIII was null & void. Also, Shillington, who's All Saints church is perched high above the surrounding land, making it visible for miles. Clophill is famous for the art of straw platting to make straw boaters, & supposedly Dick Turpin stopped here on his ride to York. |
