Bedfordshire, circular route out of Shefford |
Shefford makes a convenient start & finish to this route, as it is small enough to make parking easy, yet large enough to provide a good handful of pubs & restaurants to choose from, if required. The route manages to keep to mostly minor roads in an area that is criss-crossed with busy A-class trunk roads. |

Highlights include the town of Ampthill, where Katherine of Aragon heard at the end of her trial at Dunstable Priory in 1533 that her marriage to Henry VIII was null & void. Also, Shillington, who's All Saints church is perched high above the surrounding land, making it visible for miles. Clophill is famous for the art of straw platting to make straw boaters, & supposedly Dick Turpin stopped here on his ride to York. |
