Nidderdale, from Pateley Bridge |

From Pateley Bridge a quiet Dales backroad meanders along the side of Gouthwaite Reservoir before climbing uphill to Middlesmoor, where you are rewarded with an impressive view back down the Dale.

|
On the way you pass through 3 small hamlets & by a fine nature reserve (watch out for the viewing platform halfway along the lake). This route is very suitable for cyclists, as there is only one really steep hill at the very end of the route. The route can also be walked, although it is along a road used by motor vehicles. There is a bonus, however, for the rambler or cyclist. You can return to Pateley Bridge along a bridleway that runs along the opposite bank of the reservoir to the road (directions included in the question paper). |
