Bacup to Darwen

The towns & villages on this route do not consist of picture postcard thatched cottages & village greens. All were built from the finance of the industrial revolution to provide housing for the workers of the mills & factories. Now, much of that industry has gone, & many of the places on this route are going through a renaisance.

 

Starting on the edge of the high Penines, the route combines stunning moor-top views with market towns & hidden hamlets.The communities on this journey seem to feature a large amount of street art. Much of this is thanks to the Irwell Sulpture Trail,
